Born in New Zealand to a family of professional athletes, Luca has  a degree in Economics from Massey University. He moved to Italy at the age of two when his father (a Kiwi rugby legend) was called to coach the Italian national team. Although he started playing rugby in Italy, upon returning to Auckland in 2012 he chose to pursue rowing and participated in the 2019 U23 World Championships in Florida. After putting his sporting career on hold due to the pandemic, Luca followed the national team as a reserve at the 2022 World Cup, but later decided to give up rowing for cycling. In 2021 he met the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team engaged in Auckland in the 36th America's Cup - presented by PRADA and following that decided to participate in the selections for cyclor athletes, joining the team in 2024. The Barcelona event will be his first America's Cup.
