Born in Rimini, Massimiliano “Max” Sirena has taken part in eight America’s Cup campaigns. He won the 33rd edition with BMW Oracle Racing as wing mast manager and the 35th with Emirates Team New Zealand in Bermuda in 2017. Max also served as skipper of the Extreme 40 Luna Rossa and won the Extreme Sailing Series championship in 2011. With Luna Rossa, he has participated in all of the Italian team’s America’s Cup challenges, starting in 2000, and has twice won the Challenger Selection Series — the Louis Vuitton Cup in 2000 and the Prada Cup in 2021. In 2013, he became Skipper and Director of the team, a role he still holds today. In his free time, he enjoys any activity related to the sea, and he’s also passionate about motorcycles, enduro, and cycling. If he weren’t a professional sailor, he would definitely have chosen a career connected to the sea — although, truthfully, he never had a plan B.
