Hamish has achieved outstanding success in sports as both as a sailor and as a coach. As a sailor he has won three 470 world titles with helmsman David Barnes in the early 80s. Since moving into coaching, he has been to eight Olympic Games (three times with GBR, five times with NZ) accomplishing 1 Gold and 4 Silver medals. He also took part in five America's Cup campaigns, winning twice (2010 with Oracle and 2017 with ETNZ): Luna Rossa (2000, 2007), One World (2003), Oracle (2010) ETNZ (2021), primarily in the weather program, but also coaching afterguard roles for in-house racing and training. He took part in the 1989–90 Whitbread Round the World Race (the Cape Horn leg) on Belmont of Finland. He also developed "Road to Gold", a self-coaching tool aimed to develop aspiring sailors to Olympians. In his spare time he enjoys cruising, paddle tennis, surfing, wing foiling, biking and hiking. The 2024 AC will be his 6th, the third with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.
