Michael has a MSc and PhD from the Technical University of Denmark with a specialization in fluid - structure - interaction of membrane structures. He holds the record number of 11 participations in AC: 1983 Victory ’83; 1987 in Fremantle supporting multiple teams on behalf of North Sails; 1992 Il Moro di Venezia; 1995 first and foremost setting up 3DL in NV for North Sails followed by working with oneAustralia; 2000 AmericaOne; 2003 Illbruck Challenge; 2007 Alinghi; 2010 Alinghi; 2013 Luna Rossa; 2021 Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. Michael won the 32nd America's Cup (2007) with Alinghi with whom he was also the performance prediction manager in the 2010. In 2011 Michael took part in the development of the hard wing mast design with the North Technology Group. Likewise, he worked with NTG to model the soft wing used for the 2021 AC. He is the CFD / FSI specialist of the "aero" part at Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. His hobbies are sailing, cycling and running.
