FINAL JUNE EVENT FOR THE FIV FOIL ACADEMY POWERED BY LUNA ROSSA
The Academy's activities will resume after the summer break.
The last event of the FIV Foil Academy Powered by Luna Rossa before the summer break took place in Naples from 5 to 10 June. The programme was structured over six days, divided between a Flight Test (5–7 June) and a Clinic (8–10 June).
The Flight Test – which involved nine young sailors from the Campania region – was designed to introduce participants to foiling. Starting with basic control exercises, the programme guided them through to their first stable flights and initial foiling reaches. The sailor who demonstrated the strongest technical skills and greatest potential was subsequently invited to join the Clinic alongside more experienced athletes who had taken part in previous Academy activities.
The first day of the Clinic opened with a presentation by Giulio Giovanella, Luna Rossa's Logistics Director, who shared his professional experience with the participants. His talk covered topics such as logistics, team organisation, work routines and crew management. The session was particularly appreciated by the young sailors, who had the opportunity to engage with a professional from the America's Cup world and gain insight into aspects that are often overlooked but are essential to the success of an America's Cup campaign.
The on-water session that followed focused on refining manoeuvres, particularly the foiling gybe. Through dedicated drills involving long upwind legs followed by downwind sailing, all athletes were able to work extensively on the manoeuvre, improving both their autonomy and control while foiling.
The federal coaches in attendance – Leonardo Zaggia and Andrea Crisi – expressed great satisfaction with the event, noting the strong interest and enthusiasm shown by the participants. Once again, the programme confirmed the educational value of the FIV Foil Academy Powered by Luna Rossa as an effective pathway for introducing young sailors to foiling disciplines.
Following this event, FIV Foil Academy Powered by Luna Rossa activities will pause for the summer break before resuming in the coming months with new Flight Tests and Clinics in preparation for initiatives and events linked to the America's Cup Naples 2027.
